Black shelled Blue leg reef hermit crab (Clibanarius sp.), a very small-sized marine hermit crab species with black shells, is commonly found in the Caribbean’s reefs and lagoons, as well as the Gulf of Mexico. These crabs are easily recognized by their striking blue legs and are favored by marine aquarium enthusiasts for their resilience and beneficial role in reef aquariums. As opportunistic feeders, they consume a variety of items, including algae, detritus, and leftover fish food, making them effective at controlling algae in aquariums. Generally small, they grow to about half an in length. Known for their peaceful nature, Blue leg reef hermit crabs coexist well with other non-aggressive invertebrates and fish.
