Whitespotted Filefish (Cantherhines macrocerus)

The Whitespotted Filefish (Cantherhines macrocerus) is a unique saltwater fish that requires specialized care. This filefish should be housed in a well-established marine aquarium of at least 75 gallons, with plenty of live rock for hiding. It is generally considered reef safe with caution, as it may nip at soft corals, LPS, and small invertebrates. To minimize this behavior, provide a varied diet consisting of high-quality frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and marine algae, along with occasional live foods. Ideal tank mates include peaceful species like clownfish, gobies, and larger, non-aggressive fish. Careful observation is recommended when introducing new tank mates, as the Whitespotted Filefish can sometimes become territorial.
