Serpent Starfish Giant Red (Ophioderma squamosissimus)

The Red Serpent Star, scientifically named Ophioderma squamoisissinum, is distinguished by its long, snake-like arms, and its striking red hue.

These stars are effective scavengers, primarily consuming decaying matter and plankton. Like other starfish, they can regenerate lost limbs from their central disc.

They typically reside among live rockwork and are more active at night. It’s advisable not to keep them with feather dusters, as they may prey on them.
