Whitespotted Filefish exhibit a calm and placid disposition. While they coexist well with other species that share their easygoing nature, they are typically not suitable for coral-rich environments due to their tendency to nibble at corals, polyps, crabs, and various invertebrates. They thrive best in a tranquil tank setup with only fish for company.

Adapting some filefish to a new diet in captivity can be challenging. They are generally inclined to eat smaller, meaty fare such as plankton, clams, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and the like. With their small mouths, filefish are adept at extracting food from tight spaces and are not equipped to handle larger food pieces. Nevertheless, they might still show interest in crustaceans like shrimp and could potentially graze on some types of corals and polyps.
