The Cuban Hogfish, Bodianus pulchellus, also known as the Spotfin Hogfish, is characterized by its pinkish-orange head and body, with the rear part of the body and tail often appearing in a lighter, sometimes yellow, shade. The intensity and distribution of these colors can vary significantly.
For an adult Cuban Hogfish, a spacious environment is essential, necessitating an aquarium of at least 125 gallons. This fish is an excellent choice for beginners with large tanks, as it is docile and generally safe with most animals and invertebrates, except for crustaceans. Suitable tank mates should be larger than a Wrasse. While it is not typically a threat to smaller fish, it may become assertive during feeding.
As it matures, the Cuban Hogfish’s diet includes snails, worms, mussels, small fish, shrimp, and squid.
