The Bluehead Wrasse, a striking, multicolored fish, exhibits significant color changes with age and gender. Juveniles are yellow with black markings, while adult males feature a bold stripe pattern and a blue-green and yellow body topped with a blue head. Females are turquoise with two black stripes.
This species requires a 75-gallon or larger aquarium with live rocks and sandy substrate. They are territorial and best added last to a tank with larger, sociable fish. They can help control pests like bristleworms in the tank.
Their diet should consist of vitamin-enriched frozen mysis and brine shrimp, along with high-quality marine flakes and pellets.
