Sally Lightfoot Crab

The Sally Lightfoot Crab, Percnon gibbesi, features a brown body with orange to yellow rings on its legs. Part of a family of shore crabs, it is less inclined to venture onto land compared to its relatives. Its flat carapace enables it to conceal itself in small crevices within rockwork.

This crab prefers strong currents and needs a spacious aquarium with ample rockwork for hiding and scavenging detritus. It also feeds on algae, but as it grows larger, it may become aggressive, potentially preying on small invertebrates and fish.

If the aquarium lacks sufficient algae, the Sally Lightfoot Crab’s diet should be supplemented with dried seaweed and meaty items. While larger specimens can pose a threat to small fish and invertebrates, providing enough algae can reduce this risk.
