The Greater Soapfish, Rypticus Saponaceus, has an elongated, slightly compressed body. They are generally dark brown to black with lighter mottling or spots. Juveniles may have more pronounced spots and patterns.

The minimum tank size is 75 gallons, and their diet is chopped fish, shrimp, squid, and crustaceans. Feed them 2-3 times daily in small amounts.

They are generally peaceful but can be territorial. Best with larger, non-aggressive tank mates.

They are nocturnal and prefer subdued lighting or a dim area in the tank.

Inverts: Allow 3-4 days for collection
Fish: Allow 5-10 days for collection
